about this story

The crisp morning air hung heavy with the smell of freshly cut grass and brewing coffee. Sunlight peeked through the leaves of the towering oak trees that lined Maple Street, casting dappled shadows on the row of parked cars.

Inside the cozy kitchen, Cassie poured another cup of coffee, the rich aroma swirling around her. She hummed along to the oldies station playing on the radio as she peered out the window at the quiet street. It was Sunday morning, and the peaceful atmosphere felt like a balm to her soul.

Just then, she heard the rumble of an engine in the driveway. She smiled as her nephew, Maki, pulled his beat-up pickup truck into the spot next to her car. He hopped out, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Together, they walked out into the sunshine, ready to spend the morning browsing the stalls, picking out fresh fruits and vegetables, and chatting with the friendly vendors they knew so well. It was another perfect Sunday on Maple Street.

After buying the stuffs they needed, Cassie held up a bowl filled with a vibrant mixture of ground pork, shrimp, and chopped vegetables. Next came the tricky part. Cassie demonstrated how to hold the wrappers, forming a cup with her palm. With a gentle touch, Maki spooned the filling in, carefully mimicking his aunt's movements. Cassie showed him how to pinch the edges together, creating a delicate, pleated design of a dimsum. Finally, the moment arrived. Cassie and Maki carefully transferred the dumplings to plates, their faces flushed with accomplishment as they devoured their dim sum creation, a comfortable silence filled the room.

Laughter had filled the kitchen after that, and they’d savored their lopsided creations with double the satisfaction.Their conversation drifted to other dim sum adventures. As they continued to chat, Cassie realized that dim sum wasn’t just about the food. It was about the shared experiences, the laughter, and the memories she created with her beloved nephew, Maki. Each bite held a story, a connection that transcended generations. And as Cassie looked at Maki, she knew that these were memories they would treasure for years to come
