about this story

On a scorching Friday afternoon, Kate leisurely wandered through downtown Harrisonburg after her job interview at JMU. She was still marveling at the stunning campus and the welcoming people she had encountered. Suddenly, a heart-shaped ruby-green jewelry box in a window display caught her eye, and she couldn't tear herself away from its allure. Stepping into the cozy gift shop, she decided to treat herself to commemorate the milestone of being invited for a second interview at JMU.
Although the jewelry box was a splurge, Kate had a strong feeling that she would indeed secure the job. Two weeks later, her intuition proved to be correct as she received an offer from JMU to serve as the studio director. To celebrate this significant achievement, she chose to wear her prize-winning royal blue dress shoes as she met with Teresa, her professor and mentor from her days at VCU, who had always been a source of encouragement. Their venue for this momentous occasion was the Red Roof Café in downtown Staunton, where they engaged in heartfelt conversations about Kate's past setbacks, aspirations, and the road ahead. The warmth and beauty of their connection was palpable even from outside the café.
In a touching display of gratitude, Kate presented Teresa with the peony jewelry box, knowing that this delicate shade held a special place in her mentor's heart. In return, Teresa handed Kate a yellow rose, its delicate petals adorned with glistening dew - a symbol of the tears shed during the arduous journey of completing her degree.
