about this story

After her job interview at JMU on a hot Friday afternoon, Kate wandered through downtown Harrisonburg, enjoying the campus and the friendly people she had met. She noticed a carved peony heart-shaped jewelry box in a shop window and decided to treat herself to celebrate being invited for a second interview at JMU.
Two weeks later, her intuition proved right, and she received an offer to be the Art Studio Director at JMU. To commemorate this achievement, she wore her prize-winning royal blue dress shoes to meet with Teresa, her professor and mentor from her days at VCU, at the Red Roof Café in downtown Charlottesville. The strong connection between them was evident, demonstrating the depth of their mentorship.
As a token of her gratitude, Kate presented Teresa with her smoke-green jewelry box, as she knew this color held a special place in her mentor's heart. In return, Teresa gave Kate a bouquet of yellow roses, symbolizing the tears and joy shed while completing her MFA degree at VCU.
