The sun rose in the eastern sky as the 6-hour transatlantic flight prepared for landing. Our weary traveler held his passport tight as he made his way through customs. While this country was a new place for him to explore, his heritage was deeply rooted in these old cobblestone streets and church towers for generations.
A First-generation immigrant returned to the land that belonged to the stories of his parents and grandparents. He rode through the town looking for the markers to guide his weary soul to land that once prospered under his family's hands.
After taking car rides, taxis, three flights, and a rental car, he parked his car and walked along the ruins of the property, which were left in disrepair. His family, having fled, once fished and traveled along the river that flowed around their land. He could hear his father's voice recall where all the best fishing spots were and the community he still mourned.
As he stood on the shore of the river, a feather caught his eye. It took a machine of metal to get here, but it was the sight of the feather that touched his soul as he realized he had finally found his way home. He wasn't an outsider anymore.
