about this story
It was a beautiful night. They were celebrating in the streets and everyone was happy. They were determined to stay up all night and watch the sunrise on the beach.
They went to the funfair, hoping to make the night last. When the funfair closed they returned to the beach. Whatever happened they were determined to stay together until the bitter end.
They all knew, of course. They couldn't change what was going to happen. Therefore, it was with real sadness that they sat on the beach, watching the waves come closer.
The object washed up on the beach seemed ironic. After all, everything had gone down the toilet. They'd been so close to having it all and now it was over.
If only things could have been different, was the last thought each of them had before they drew their last breath.
