about this story
A journalist was introduced to a local indigenous Tribal Nation, which opened her eyes to the actual history of indigenous peoples and the challenges they continue to face. She decided to do a story for her network about them, and was invited to attend one of their events, where she witnessed the preservation of their heritage through dress, dance, song, and food. She was also able to learn more about the challenges they've faced in keeping and preserving their lands, including issues with pollution. Her news story brought positive attention to the Tribal Nation and helped forge connections to promote awareness of their history and culture, assist with some of the challenges they deal with as a result of colonization, and create a place of true belonging as part of the overall community.
