about this story

The ash fell slowly, like snow as it melted away on the ground. You could see it coat the trees and the land. We stayed inside the Cathedral the whole time, not daring to step outside and let the ash touch our skin. It was dangerous, the outside was dangerous. We even walked inside the Cathedral with caution. Everyone's breath was held in some form, fingers tapping and shoes clicking. But even with the smog and ash, the sun rose with pride. It shone through the tinted glass and it felt like hope. Even with the weather, and even with the aliens. The sun rose.
